About Registrations
No, we have 6 sessions/intakes a year; one session runs for 8 weeks. If you are a beginner you cannot join level 1 after the second class of the session. If you are not a beginner you need an assessment and might be able to join even in the middle of the session. (please see question 5)

If you have never spoken the language before or had any formal training you can go ahead and enroll with level 1 as it starts from the basics. Or We can either send a written assessment or arrange a telephone assessment with one of our teachers. Its free and can be taken whenever you are available!
All general language/group classes are $230 plus tax and service charges, but French is $230 with no tax. We also offer private lessons at $55 per hour or $450 for a 10-hour package

Should you submit your written withdrawal request before the commencement of your registered course, you will receive a 75% refund of all tuition fees. If the written notice is provided within three days after the first scheduled class, a 50% refund will be granted. Requests for refunds will not be entertained beyond this point.
For those wishing to allocate their entire tuition to a future session, a written request must be submitted at least 48 hours prior to the course's commencement. However, complete deferral of group courses will not be permissible following the inaugural session. It's important to note that partial transfer of classes to a future session will not be accepted, and retroactive refunds for missed classes will not be issued.
Please take into consideration that the promotional code for returning students is applicable solely when purchasing the complete session.
What We Offer at International House
General Language Group evening classes for adults 16+
We teach 12 different languages: Arabic, French, Farsi, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian and Spanish.
Classes are once a week for 2 hours (6:30 to 8:30 pm) Monday to Thursday Vancouver time. Some groups change their schedule for morning hours or Fridays.
The schedule (the day of the week) depends on the language and level.
We have 6 intakes during the year (Sessions A,B,C,D,E,F). One session is 8 weeks long.
All classes are online via Zoom (both group and private lessons).
Minimum number of students per group is 3.
If 2 students register, the class is converted to semi-private and it is shortened to either 6 classes of 120 minutes or 8 classes of 90 minutes.
With 1 student only the class is cancelled and the student is offered the following options:
postponing the classes for one week (in case somebody else registers)
converting their tuition to 5 classes of 60 minutes (private language lessons)
keeping their tuition as a credit for a future session (valid for 1 year)
Maximum numbers of students per group is 10.
Please kindly note that the cost of books is not included in the tuition fee.
The prices of the books vary between $40 to $90, depending on the language. It is worth mentioning that one book is used for several levels, depending on the language.
Lastly, please be advised that there is a no-refund policy on books.
We understand that sometimes unexpected events may cause you to miss some classes, such as travel or work obligation.
If you are aware of these in advance at the time of registration, we may be able to reduce the price for the specific classes you will be missing. To do so, please inform us of the dates you will be absent, and we will update our Student Class List in Google Classroom accordingly.
Please note that prorating is only possible by phone or in person, and cannot be done when registering on our website. We would also like to remind you that prorating does not qualify for any discounts.
Learning with Modern Languages
At International House Modern Languages, we don't just teach grammar and vocabulary. Our experienced teachers customize lessons to incorporate topics of conversation that align with the student's passions, profession and daily life. This approach allows you to seamlessly apply your newly acquired language skills to practical, real-world situations. Our goal is to help you speak fluently, confidently and easily in any situation.
We offer private lessons for adults and children.

Students can register for private lessons over the phone or in person (not online).

Korean and French assessments are conducted in written form, whereas all other language assessments are conducted over the phone and are solely oral, lasting between 10 to 15 minutes.

Yes, you will receive a certificate for each level you complete. Our certificates are issued according to the level and are widely accepted by institutions around the world.
You can pay by debit or credit card, PayPal. This will automatically authorize your bank to send money using your IBAN. Incase you wish to do so you can also drop by our office at 88 W Pender St #2001, Vancouver, BC V6B 6N8 and we can help you out with it. Your money is 100% secure with us!

We understand that circumstances may change, and we have put in place a policy to ensure that our students are fairly refunded or accommodated should they need to withdraw or transfer their class.
For our General Language Classes:
1. If you submit a written withdrawal request prior to the start of the class, 75% of your tuition fees will be refunded.
2. If you submit a written notice within three days after the first assigned class, 50% of your tuition fees will be refunded.
3. If you wish to transfer your full tuition to a future session, a written request must be submitted 48 hours prior to the start of the course. Full group course deferrals are decided on a case-by-case basis.
4. We cannot consider any refunds after the second week of classes, and there will be no retroactive refunds for missed classes.
Please note that our returning student promo code applies only when purchasing the full session, and there will be no refunds on books. All requests must be submitted to languages@ihvancouver.com.
For our Private Lessons:
1. We have a no refund policy in place, but in case you are unable to attend private classes anymore, we will provide a refund for any missed classes.

Discounts
We offer returning students with a 10$ discount on the next session enrollment provided you had previously enrolled with one of our language sessions.
No, we do not offer family plans and students under the age of 18 cannot take courses. However, if you introduce a family member or friend, we have prepared a "friend referral" plan in which both the person and the referrer can receive benefits.
Currently all our classes are completely online, but we are planning to open up offline sessions as-well soon!
Yes, of course. Studying in a group has several advantages, such as the opportunity to practice speaking with teachers and other classmates and to learn from your own mistakes and those of other students. However, we also offer private her lessons if you would like additional private lessons with a native teacher for personal feedback.
